Our washers and dryers are specially designed to be highly energy efficient, reducing the overall amount of water, gas, and electricity required.
All of our washers and dryers are operated with smart cards purchased on site, eliminating the need for quarters entirely. We happily accept cash, credit and debit cards.
Start your laundry, let our staff know how long and how warm to dry your clothes, leave us your card and we'll transfer your laundry from the washer to the dryer. When you return, your laundry is dry and you've had some free time, free.
Get more free time. Drop off your laundry and we'll do it for you. Then all you have to do is pick it and put it away.
Can't get to the laundromat? No problem. If you're in Arcata, we'll pick it up and deliver it back to you the next day.
Our staff knows laundry and will help you with just about any laundry question. They're a lot of fun to hang out with, too.

ZOUT! is our favorite stain remover. It works well on grass, blood, grease, dirt, and lots of other stains. For optimal results, pour some on the stain, scrub lightly with a brush, and let sit for 10 minutes. Cold water wash works best for most stains.
Baking Soda works great on most odors. Just add some to your detergent.
Static cling can be reduced by liquid fabric softener in the wash, or dryer sheets in the dryer. Static Eliminator is our choice of dryer sheet. It is non-toxic and chemical-free.
Mold & Mildew stains are permanent. Bleach will kill the smell and stop it from spreading.
Chlorine Bleach is great for whites only. It will brighten them up and can help with stains.
Non-Chlorine Bleach works well to brighten colors.
Lint Removers are great for fuzz and animal hair. Use before you wash for cleaner laundry.
The wash cycle is 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the cycle.
All washers at Emerald City are water efficient, requiring less soap than you might expect. Use 2 tablespoons for the double load, a quarter cup for the triple loader and a half cup on the giant loader. More soap than this can leave soap spots on your clothes.
The washing machines can be filled to just past the top of the door.
Odors of all kinds can be eliminated or drastically reduced by adding baking soda to your wash.
The delicate cycle uses warm water to wash, and cold water to rinse.
Most loads of laundry can be dried in 30 to 50 minutes, depending on the fabrics. Low heat is good for delicates, Permanent Press for light to medium weights, and High for heavy, durable cottons.
Washing down is easy. Use mild soap, a cold water gentle cycle, and dry on low with tennis balls for fluff.
Extra Extract is an extra spin cycle that leaves laundry a little dryer and reduces your drying time.
